Description of Project:
The Government of Bangladesh declared Birol customs and excise railway station to be a Land port station for expansion of international trade among India. Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan .17 .59 acres of land 150m away from the Zero point has already been acquired by the side of Birol-Radhikapur railway line. A letter from Ministry of Shipping has been issued to Ministry of Railways mentioning that functions of Land port can be started due to absence of railway link to land port According to the demand from the Ministry of Shipping, Railway Ministry has instructed Bangladesh Ra lway to establish railway link to the land port. Location of the proposed Birol land port station would be 8km distance away from existing Birol station towards Birol border. With the establishment of the Birol and port station, a new will be unfolded for the Bangladesh Railway. This will be the only land port where from international trade can be extended not only to India but also to Nepal and Bhutan by Railway and Roadway transport. Bhiratnagar border of Nepal is only 231km away from the Birol border. Trade with Nepal can be easily established by the Railway due to existing connectivity from Birol to Jogobani via Radhikapur border. It is notable that the trade between Nepal-India-Bangladesh will be ease with the construction of 18km rail line from Jogobani of India to Bhiratnagar of Nepal. In addition to that distance or Fuentshelling at Bhutan border area is 334km by Railway from Birol via Radhikapur. Bangladesh will also be able to extract the benefit of Trans-Asian railway network. If Birol land port goes under operation and the Birol land port station is established by the time, it will be a milestone for the fasted growing economy of Bangladesh. |
Description of Actual Services Provided by Staff of this Firm in the Assignment:
The consultant prepared Initial Environmental Examination (IEE), and Environment Management Plan MP) report etc.,
Conducted detail traffic survey and collect both primary and secondary data to find out actual demand of transportation facilities in proposed railway link. Analyses the existing traffic for goods of various modes of transports. Identify possible traffic (goods) forecast duly considering various development activities of the government and private entities;
• Forecast future goods traffic duly considering the impact of the development activities of the government and private entities;
• Develop an operational plan for the proposed Birol land Port Station; Find out what portion of traffic (goods) can be attracted by proposed railway. |
