Environmental Quality Test under Emergency Assistance Project: Improvement of National Highway (N1) From Unchiprang (Ch: 431+494) to Teknaf (Ch: 462+254)

The project road starts from the intersection with Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway (N1) at Link Road, traverse for a length of 80.76 km and ends at the Shapla Chattar at Teknaf. This Road is a part of National Highway (N1) which connects the South-east corner of Bangladesh with the other regions. The present civil work has been divided into 02 (two) packages: Rehabilitation of National Highway (N1) From Unchiprang (Ch: 431+494) to Teknaf (Ch: 462+254) under (PW-03) and Construction of PC Girder Bridge (5 nos.) – (a) Balukhali Bridge: 47.072 m (1 no.) length at Ch: 416+688; (b) Jadi Mura Bridge: 44.02 m (1 no.) length at Ch: 450+558; (c) Omor Khal Bridge: 44.02 m (1 no.) length at Ch: 451+972; (d) Hachchya Khal Bridge: 40.97 m (1 no.) length at Ch: 460+589 and (e) Kayek Khal Bridge: 47.072 m (1 no.) length at Ch: 461+506 under PW-04. The planned road section starts from Unchiprang (Ch.431+494 km) and ends at Teknaf (Ch: 462+254 km).

Services included:

§  The air quality testing parameters covered: PM₁₀ & PM_2.5, Oxides of Nitrogen (NO_x), Sulfur Dioxide (SO₂), and Carbon Monoxide (CO), Wind Speed, Wind Direction.

§  The Surface water quality testing parameters included: pH, Temperature, Turbidity, Electric Conductivity (EC), Phosphate (PO43-), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen demand (BOD), Sulphate (SO42-) and Dissolved Oxygen (DO).

§  The Ground water quality testing parameters included: pH, Colour, Temperature, Turbidity, Manganese (Mn), Arsenic (As), Iron (Fe), Chloride (Cl-), Salinity, Total Hardness as CaCO3, Total Coliform (TC) and Faecal Coliform (FC)

§  Noise level measurements were conducted 1 hour duration both day and night-time using an HTC Scientific Sound Level Meter (SLM), SL – 1352.

§  Soil Quality testing parameter included: pH, Iron (Fe), Lead (Pb), Chromium (Cr), Oil & Grease.

Preparation of Contractor Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and Environmental Quality Test Report based on the analysis result of water quality test, air quality monitoring, and noise level measurements and Soil Quality Testing.
