Description of Project:

The proposed Emergency Assistance Project will support the Government of Bangladesh in addressing the immediate and urgent needs of the displaced persons in Cox’s bazar District, as identified by the United Nations (UN) in its Joint Response Plan (JRP). The project will mainly support the improvement of water supply and sanitation, disaster risk management, sustainable energy supply, and access roads.

The Subproject is “Construction and operation of mini piped water supply system with Production Tube Well along with Pipe Network and stand-pipe water distribution points in camps and adjacent affected villages”. However, the subproject is designed to provide safe and sustainable water supply to the displaced people from Myanmar and host community in Ukhia through construction, and commissioning of mini piped water supply scheme. Under this scheme, production well, solar pump, pump house pipeline, water reservoir and community tap stand will be constructed.

DSCL was engaged to conduct environmental quality monitoring throughout the construction period, monitor the environmental safeguards of the project area, monitor the occupational and public health & safety in & around the project area, monitor the environmental pollution in the project area due to the construction activities, and accordingly preparation of the three environmental quality monitoring report.

The environmental quality monitoring activities included: surface water sampling & quality testing, groundwater sampling & quality testing, ambient air quality monitoring (2hours duration), and ambient noise level measurement. The environmental quality monitoring scope was according to the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the project component, including drainage congestion monitoring, visual observation of dust pollution and water spray along with monitoring of the health and safety of the labors and labor camp with sanitation. Environmental trainings and awareness raising campaigns were also include under the scope of services.
