Description of Project:

The Port of Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT) has holding capacity for 6408 TEUs of containerized cargo. The CCT quay is 450 meters (1476 feet) long. The Container Freight Station at the Port of Chittagong’s CCT covers 1.3 hectares, and the container storage yard covers 15 hectares. The CCT is served by rail siding of 550 meters (1804 feet). The New Mooring Container Terminal in the Port of Chittagong is located adjacent to the CCT. The terminal was developed by the Chittagong Port Authority to meet increased volume of containerized cargoes. As the ports authority added new machinery, container handling saw a rise,” Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) research director Khondaker Golam Moazzem told the Dhaka Tribune, meaning that the port capacity moved towards the better.

The overall scope of work under this project –

v Security Access Control System throughout port, Security Control Centre in CPA Security Building.

v CCTV coverage throughout the port area Zones A-M

v Access Control System at all Port entry gates

v Access Control System at all Key Asset and Infrastructure Buildings

v Fire Detection System in all Key Asset and Infrastructure Buildings

Description of Actual Services Provided by Staff of this Firm in the Assignment:

The scope of work of the EIA includes:

§  Review of relevant all documents and data/information from secondary sources, and identifies gaps to be filled, relevant to the environmental screening needs from field surveys.

§  Provide a description of the environmental baseline.

§  Represent the field surveys where include baseline (air, noise, surface water and ground/drinking water) environmental quality monitoring at representative and sensitive locations, and identification of macro-level environmental issues within the Sub-project’s influence area.

§  Conduct preliminary analysis of impacts and management measures of the nature, scale and magnitude of the impacts that the sub-project is likely to cause on the environment and classify the same using established methods.

§  Develop Environmental Management Plan (EMP) including Monitoring Plan for successfully implementing the mitigation/enhancement measures.

§  Prepare an EIA report in accordance with the DOE safeguard policies and guidelines and approved TOR.
