Project Name:
Detail Design and Construction of Bangabandhu Railway Bridge Environmental Study on Environmental Quality Monitoring and Baseline Environmental Survey. |
|
Country: Bangladesh | |
Project Duration: 05/2017 to 08/2017 | |
Description of Project:
The Government of the People’s Republic of the Bangladesh (GOB), through the Bangladesh Railway (BR) of Ministry of Railways is implementing the Second Bangabandhu Railway Bridge, where part of the overall project cost shall be covered from the National Budget and the rest amount shall be the financial assistance under the ODA Loan provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). A dedicated railway bridge across the river Jamuna has been conceptualised to run in parallel to the existing Bangabandhu Bridge with an overall view to improve the capacity of transportation system and also to ensure safety of railway transportation in Bangladesh. The proposed rail bridge thereby facilitates an efficient logistic and transportation network within the Country and also contributes towards an improved network with the neighbouring Countries in South Asia. The Project will construct a dedicated railway bridge with provision of dual gauge double track over the river Jamuna parallel to the existing Bangabandhu Bridge. The project component includes the following: § Railway track length approximately 4.8 km; § Railway viaduct length approximately 0.3 km; § Railway approach road length approximately 6.2 km; § Minor bridges & culverts on railway approach section; and § Renovation & remodelling of Bangabandhu Setu East Station and Bangabandhu Setu West Station with Computer Based Interlocking Signalling System. An environmental study was conducted covering Environmental Quality Monitoring and Baseline Environmental Survey, as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) during the detailed design of the proposed project. The CONSORTIUM JV DSCL-HOPE-NP was engaged by ACE Consultants Ltd. of Bangladesh (a Sub-Consultant of the Lead Consultant Oriental Consultants Global Ltd. of Japan for the proposed project, who provided the necessary engineering services for detailed design, bid assistance and construction supervision of this railway bridge). The CONSORTIUM was engaged to carry out the environmental study covering two scopes: (i) Environmental Quality Monitoring Survey (Air Quality Monitoring, Noise & Vibration, Surface Water Quality, Ground Water Quality, Sediments Quality, Benthos & Plankton, and Soil Sampling); and (ii) Baseline Environmental Survey (Fish Species Survey, Ecological Survey, Flora & Fauna, Critical Species, Biodiversity Conservation, Ecosystem, Migratory Birds, Genetic Dolphins, Bangabandhu Eco Park, Tree Counting, Char Land Survey, and two rounds of Stakeholder Consultation). Based on the outcome & result of these survey and investigation, prepared Environmental Quality Monitoring Report, Baseline Environmental Survey Report and Stakeholder Consultation Report. |
