Description of Project:
The Barisal City Corporation (BCC) is implementing a Climate Change Adapted Urban Development (CCAUD) Project in Barisal city, in the South-central part of Bangladesh. As Barisal city is highly sensitive to climate change, BCC has therefore identified certain interventions under the CCAUD Project to make the city resilient to hazards of flooding, storm surges and cyclone thus reducing the risk of damage to assets, livelihoods, and lives. The Project is funded by KFW, a German government-owned development bank, in cooperation with the BCC and the Government of Bangladesh (GoB). This CCAUD Project at Barisal is part of the “Climate Change Adaptation in Urban Areas” (CCAUA) programme that was a result of the intergovernmental consultations between the Republic of Bangladesh and the Federal Republic of Germany, held in 2013. The programme aimed at formulating and implementing long term strategy for urban development and assisting selected urban areas in Bangladesh to adapt to the challenging effects of Climate Change. |
